Ocean Planet
Wet World - September 2004

    I
mentioned last newsletter that I have listened to feedback for years on the desire of people to meet other people who want to paddle, yet do not want to be involved in a traditional "Club" format.

The problem ...... where to find those people??

With that, last edition we launched with Henry Van der Kolk as our first paddler in the Paddler Profiles. Each edition, we will introduce someone who paddles because they love it and want to share it ....... and who will be out there on the water with a great selection of trips. You will be given a profile of that person and the types of paddles they do, and a calendar link set up where all the paddlers can put on their trips.

Some trips will suit you, some will not. These trips are a completely private, arranged between the paddler and the people who want to go out with them, type affair. Ocean Planet has no association with this other than to act as a medium for people to get to meet each other.

    S
o meet David Hipsley....................

I started kayaking in September 2001 after many years' horse riding and playing golf.

You will see me out on the water every weekend enjoying a variety of paddles from estuaries, ocean paddling, night paddles and weekend camps.

Jerusalem Bay
A great Saturday morning paddle from Bobbin Head meeting up with paddlers from Patonga

Emphasis is always on safety and improving skills by training courses or paddling with more experienced paddlers. Being involved with several groups you have a vast network of people to kayak with, have a lot of fun, plenty of exercise and now have 3 neighbours kayaking.

We are spoilt with the waterways readily available to us.

Bantry Bay – Can you believe this is 20 minutes from the city?

Botany Bay - Crossing from La Perouse over to Towra Beach

Cottage Rock – a stop over in Cowan Creek

Long Reef - A successful whale watching paddle to Shelley Beach

Shelley Beach - arriving for lunch

Camping down the Wallingat River

So ............. if you want to get out with David and his group of paddlers, drop him an email at:

dhipsley@optushome.com.au

Or drop in to Henry's Van der Kolk's web site, where you can get a calendar with David's, Henry's and other paddlers kayaking trips posted and contact them on going or to post your own trips to!!!

Also - some cool photos there too ...... have fun!
