ince I introduced the new paddling profiles section last newsletter, I have had many people contact me to say what a great idea it was and how it has opened new paddling avenues for them - paddling without a club structure to concern them.

    More people to meet and even more places to paddle!

    But, I have also had a equal amount of people call to say that they wanted to locate even more people that they can get out and paddle with. They were looking for a club environment as well as the opportunity to extend their range of paddling opportunities even further.

    So, here we now have, in additional to Paddler Profiles..................

Club Profiles!

    The first club we would like to introduce is the New South Wales Sea Kayak Club. A very large and diverse group of paddlers, all linked together by the common thread of loving to paddle. The members of this club get out and do some pretty impressive paddles and have a great time at it as well.

    So, find below their story and some top images to get you wishing you weren't sitting at that computer desk right now.....

Calling all sea kayakers .............

.......... to join the NSW Sea Kayak Club.

    “Why do I need to join a club”, you ask?

    If you answer YES to any of these five questions below, then read on and find out why you need us.

* Do you paddle on your own?

* Is your time limited, as your paddling mates have other commitments?

* Are you bored with the same stretch of water?

* Do you want to spend more time paddling?

* Do you want to paddle offshore, but don't have the expertise to do it in safety?

Our club

    Well then, why not join the NSW Sea Kayak Club? We are a non-profit sea kayak club and mainly paddle up and down the NSW coast. We will expand your sea kayaking experience by introducing you to 250 like-minded members. They inhabit all parts of NSW, and bits of Victoria. Members enjoy trips from the mid North Coast to the far South Coast in groups of 2 to 15 people.

Membership

    Your membership includes:

•  a subscription to NSW Sea Kayaker , our club magazine which is published 4 times per year and packed full of informative articles, product reviews, and trip reports;

•  access to the club's accredited training program;

•  and our members' chatline, which is a great way to meet other members and discuss all the things you've always wanted to ask but were too afraid to! You may have already discovered our extensive website at www.nswseakayaker.asn.au which houses a library of over 900 pages of sea kayak information and links to every major sea kayak resource.

Trips

    Advertised in our club magazine and on the website is our Trips Calendar.

The calendar caters for everyone, from beginners to advanced, offering a trip almost every weekend. All our trips are led by qualified leaders and follow approved safety guidelines.

Whether you are a Grade 1 or Grade 4 paddler, there is a trip for you. We have overnight camping trips, day trips, whale watching and many more. They vary in length from 8 km to 48 kms per day.

Contact our tripsconvenor@nswseakayaker.asn.au for more information.

Training

    For those who are not graded, you'll be pleased to know that we are a National Training Provider (NTP) affiliated with Australian Canoeing (AC) and offer accredited training courses.

Paddlers wishing to go on Grade 3 trips and up need the AC qualification, Sea Skills 2 . This qualification is available through us. For more information contact our training coordinator at trainingcoordinator@nswseakayaker.asn.au .

Alternatively, if our program is full, then you can also avail yourself of various commercial providers who offer training to obtain the necessary qualifications to attend trips graded 3 and higher.

Rock n Roll

    Our club holds an annual three-day paddling event called the Rock ‘n Roll to be held in Port Stephens in March, 2005.

This is where all club members get together for three days to socialize, kayak, share experiences, attend talks etc, etc.
