Harbour Bridge Bash

Greenwich Point to Lavender Bay Return
"The best of the city views, without the bridge climb .... "

Where are we going??

This trip takes in almost everything of interest that you could ever want on an urban paddle. Beautiful city views, natural bushland, historic ships and sites, quiet bays and busy waterways.

Starting out in a sheltered bay on the Greenwich point, we head right out into maritime wonders. Straight away you get a feel for how small you really are in a kayak if the regular oil tanker is moored at the Greenwich oil storage plant. Amazing to note is that these are "small" tankers! We head across the bay to some retired ships, an old ferry, cargo ship and barge. From here you also have good views of HMAS Waterhen, home of the Huon Class ships that have a fibreglass hull to avoid magnetic signature and attract mines, not that we have many mines to worry about here thank goodness!

Paddling around Balls head is a beautiful bush and cliff reserve, not what would be expected in a busy harbour. Across the bay to Blues Point with good views of Sawmill Reserve, sight of an historic sawmill, and into picturesque Lavender Bay. From here you are a stones throw from the Harbour Bridge, and have fabulous views of the city, bridge, the former Luna Park site and the Opera House, framed under the bridge for photos. After paddling directly underneath the bridge, we turn back and head to the south bank.

We paddle past the set where the series Water Rats was filmed, and take a peak straight down into Darling Harbour and cruise leisurely past Goat Island and back to Greenwich Point.
