Brisbane Water Wander

Ettalong Beach into the Brisbane Water Estuary & Return

In an area that has long been held as a peaceful little secret, your tour begins with a quiet introduction to the day at Ettalong Beach on the southern end of Brisbane Water Estuary.

We paddle out past Pretty Beach, past Hardys Bay over to Booker Bay and to the Rip Bridge. If the tides are not favourable, we turn around at this point and lunch on the Bar Estate Wharf, watching life and the local fisherman drift by with hopes of the big one in their eyes.

If the tides allow, and the group is up to it, we will paddle on past Pelican Island Nature Reserve and stop for lunch on a sandy bank near Riley's Island Reserve - a haven for numerous water birds who linger in the mangroves and shelter of its banks. While this area is settled, it has retained it's peaceful character and is a wonderful paddle to give you a feel for just how lucky we are to live so close to so much water - a fact well hidden from the road travellers.

Then it's a return paddle back to Ettalong underneath the "crooked bridge" linking the mainland to St. Hubert's Island. A wonderfully civilized addition to this trip is with a delicious cappuccino at "The Old Killcare General Store & Deli" in Hardys Bay then onward to the finish at Ettalong Beach.
